Hello! My name is Cathy Black-Benson and I work in a variety of mediums. Currently, I enjoy layering decoupage and acrylic on glass bottles, lit from within. I call these Mark’s “Firefly Lights” to honor a wonderful memory and a dear friend.

Another new hobby is book binding and am having fun making journals completely by hand. This combines my sewing and love of fabric with my design skills and complete passion for books in general.

I have always been interested in the arts and in making things since I was a child. I remember in grade school drawing “placemats” and trying to sell them to neighbors as such. I didn’t do a lemonade stand, it was placemats! I have a bachelor’s degree in drawing and painting from Skidmore College and have worked in many different media including oils, watercolors, pastels, charcoal, and a variety of mixed media. While art has always been a major component of my life, most of my career has been in bookselling, managing several bookstores in New York and Florida.

I moved to Florida in 2010 from New York and reside in Ormond Beach. GOLA is the first time I’ve had work in a gallery and I am thrilled to be a part of this organization.

Thank you for supporting GOLA!
