Rod and his wife Mary (also an artist) moved from Maine in 2010 to Marietta GA for a few years before retiring from a 38 year career in fire protection engineering. He finally moved to Flagler Beach after vacationing at Gamble Rodger's for over 30 years.

Rod’s grandfather was a cabinet maker, apprenticed in Vienna and immigrated from Czechoslovakia through Ellis Island. As a boy, he used to hang out in his basement shop, experiment with tools and make simple wood projects and gifts. “I'll never be half as talented as he was, but I certainly like trying.”

Marquetry and wood turning are Rod’s favorite medium, but he also makes furniture and functional pieces.  He also welcomes custom design orders.

When not creating, Rod loves to bowl, take cross country motorcycle trips, travel in his RV, and hunt in the north woods of Maine.
