Born in Barreiro, Portugal, I arrived in New Jersey with my parents as a two year-old, and for as long as I can remember, I have always been a creative soul. As a young child, I spent most days drawing, coloring, sewing, crocheting, reading books, playing school and creating, always dreaming of being an artist, as well as a teacher.

As I became a young adult, life took me on a different path and back then my focus became attaining a career right out of high school. I pursued a business degree in legal assisting, married, purchased a home, and eventually welcomed a family, two daughters. Although, I was happy with my life’s choices, I always longed to spend more time on “artistic endeavors” never losing sight of my dream to become an artist as well as an educator.

It was during a very dark time in my life, as I struggled with a chronic illness at an early age, leaving me incapacitated for several years, and while raising two young daughters, that I rediscovered my passion for art. My treating doctor suggested that I take a “class”, such as an art class, join a book club or work a couple of hours a week as a volunteer as therapy especially for my mental well-being while coping with chronic illness. I applied to the local community college where I lived in New Jersey, and there I took my very first studio art class. I found solace in being involved in an art community and it helped me through the healing process of living with chronic illness. I embraced my love of art and my desire to teach, which led me to pursue an Early Childhood Education degree, one class at a time. I participated in art shows and exhibits at local art groups while in New Jersey.

I moved to Florida in 2003 and have lived in Palm Coast ever since. I attended Daytona State College where I finally graduated with an Associates of Arts. Over the years, I have worked in different administrative positions, as well as an Early Childhood Educator, VPK teacher, and up until 2020, as a Curriculum Director for a local early childhood education program. Throughout my years in Florida, I have been involved in teaching children’s art, as well as have been a member of our local FCAL (Flagler County Artists League), a new member here at GOLA (Gallery of Local Art) and member artist of the P.A.St.A Gallery, Saint Augustine.

Although 2020 came in tumultuously challenging for all, to say the least, it has afforded me the time to be at home in my art studio 24/7—decision made!  It was now or never to pursue my passion of painting full-time! I consider myself a self-taught artist—and an oil painter.  However, this past year I have embraced gouache painting which has become a favorite medium of mine. I get my inspiration for my paintings mostly from my own photography. I hope you enjoy my gouache artwork, as much as I have enjoyed the process. I am grateful for being a “Creative”, and am enjoying the journey of life, wherever it takes me….
